The financial assistance program, See Better to Succeed, offers a reimbursement of $250 following the purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses for any child under the age of 18. This amount is fixed: it does not vary with the cost of your purchase. Only purchases made as of September 1, 2019 from a merchant in Québec are eligible. The reimbursement is granted only for the purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses prescribed by a professional for vision correction. Eligible persons All children are eligible for the program if they meet the following conditions: be under the age of 18 on the date of purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses be insured by Québec health insurance have received a prescription for corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses during an eye examination Note: the eye examination is covered by health insurance for children under the age of 18. How to obtain the reimbursement To receive the $250 reimbursement, you need to complete an application online. APPLY FOR A REIMBURSEMENT Information required The child's Health Insurance Number or Social Insurance Number Child's postal code Date of purchase Cost of the eyeglasses or contact lenses Québec Sales Tax (QST) number If this number does not appear on your invoice, you will need to obtain it from the merchant from whom you made your purchase. Conditions associated with the reimbursement Introduction of the program This program comes into effect on September 1, 2019. Only purchases made from this date are eligible for reimbursement. Place of purchase To be eligible, purchases must be made from a merchant in Québec, either online or in-store. Amount granted A reimbursement of $250 can be requested for each child under the age of 18. This amount is fixed: it does not vary with the cost of your purchase. Receipt of cheque The designated person responsible for the child on file at RAMQ (by default, the mother), will receive a cheque for $250 in the mail, no later than 3 weeks after the application is made. Deadline for submitting an application You must submit your application within 12 months following the date of purchase. Supporting documents We may ask you for supporting documents should a verification be conducted following a reimbursement. Non-compliance may result in recovery of the amount of the reimbursement. It is therefore important for you to keep the following for 5 years: the invoice for the eyeglasses or contact lenses the prescription slip, if the eye examination was conducted outside Québec (RAMQ holds already the information for eye examinations conducted in Québec) Frequency of applications Applications for reimbursement may be made every two years, that is, a child for whom a reimbursement is received under the program must wait 2 years from the date of that qualifying purchase before being eligible again. For example, if you obtained a reimbursement for eyeglasses purchased on October 1, 2020, the next eligible purchase may be made as of October 1, 2022.
